Media wall with smart moodlighting
Current trend or longstanding style?
Media walls have grown in popularity. In numerous styles and features they are instantly recognisable and I am personally a fan. This project was a relatively simple version, but that was the desire. They are essentially just a studded false wall and faced with either plasterboard and skimmed, or MDF. Both have merit and so is often decided based on features of the project. This whole room was clean, white, contemporary feel and is actually a combination of both. The wall is five metres long and the TV is 86". The niches were lined with MDF mainly because of the dimensions of the soundbar recess being too awkward to skim and also because of the proximity to the downlights and them potentially showing inevitable small imperfections in the plaster finish. We actually went on the face the back of the six niches with a wavy acrylic panel to give them more definition.
Lighting is always important with these projects and great care was taken to install a solution for varied requirements. The six spotlights were white-bezel housings with GU10 dimmable bulbs and a smart home controller. The TV backlight is a full circumference led strip that can project the screen lighting around the recess, or the mode can just be set to any colour, and brightness to suit.
